I googled it, and no one seems to know. I went to the forum to discuss forumotion (the type of forum this is) and it seems to be relatively new. I was really confused too. This forum is free to host; there is no option to pay, and it's advertised as an ad-free forum.

Yeah I think it's new and I just went to the admin settings and there was a whole new area for ads. I turned them off for members, but unregistered visitors will still see them.
