I have figured out the notation but too tired to do anything with it

Yep, I understand where the "notation" comes from now too, but I don't think I'm going to be able to go any further than that, sadly.

It is very clever, but the route to the answer is so complex that guessing will be what gets it. Grrrr. David Jason?

I felt I was so close yesterday when I understood the notation. Afterwards I've realised I can't make anything reasonable out of it. I wouldn't like to go back to guessing; like Nicolle, I'd like to work it out, not make a lucky guess.

I'm glad it's March tomorrow, something should be happening in Fairyland even if I'm not able to solve this...

I think you could offer a different prize for an answer in which the person cannot explain the reasoning. That sounds good to me.

I believe it is 'Stokoe Notation' ASL but this has got me no further forward in guessing the person

I believe that too, and I can describe some of the movements that are required to form the signs, and have a stab at making some of them. I understand which are made in a neutral location or at the the lower part of the face etc, how the hand has to be positioned, e.g. spread, palm away from signer, and some of the movements required, e.g. towards the dominant side and up, etc etc. I've also identified the nodding clenched fist which I know is "yes". All this I have deciphered, but I don't have a deaf person, or a signer, on hand to do them to, so I'm never going to get the final bit, sadly.

Wow, you're all so clever to have worked out the "signs" are Stokoe Notation ASL. I don't have a signer on hand either, but if I find one I'll let you know. I think you all deserve prizes!

I agree with Stokoe notation but I'd say it's BSL - clue #7 says it's a form of British language. I can't translate it though. I know a person I could ask for help if it was Finnish sign language but in this case I don't know what to do. Marm said we should be able to google this through but I've no luck so far....
