Re: competition Question
I think the idea is you translate the 3 clues, they turn out to be films, then you google those for the connection, which is the answer. That's my reading of it.
Re: competition Question
= which means that if I can't translate them with Google I don't need to feel stupid Also that would make actors, directors and authors likely guesses.
I know the alphabets in ASL and a week ago I learned to sign "bullshit" (I met someone studying sign language and she told me that it was her favourite sign). Not really helpful in this case though...

Re: competition Question
Keep guessing, I think! I've had it with this one, really..toooooooo frustrating! Where's the smiley banging his head against a brick wall? That's the one I need!
Re: competition Question
I can certainly relate to the feelings of frustration, I feel like I have been spending more time on trying to figure out this question than on anything else! Isn't the term called obsession???
Currently I am trying to work out all the hand movements, I figure when I am comfortable with those (though it is difficult to get a comprehensive explanation of stokoe on only one site!) I could google for sites with pictorial representations of sign language and look up the hand movements themselves. Fingers crossed!
However, I don't think this is going to happen today, it's been over three hours (doesn't time go by fast when you're hooked) and my brain needs a break! Best of luck everyone, I'm sure somebody will get it...............eventually!

Re: competition Question
I'm just going to have to guess again, and again.
There's no way I'll be able to figure out the film titles from the notation, even though there are so many clues above. And that's annoying because I'm a cinema projectionist and (like to think) I have a pretty good knowledge of films and actors.
Dustin Hoffman?
(Hi Mercon! I just noticed you are from NZ too! )

Re: competition Question
Wow! I would never have thought of BSL. I know the alphabet, but that doesnt seem to help me much here. But then again Im incredibly dense.
I hope someone gets it soon. Its been driving me batty!

I also went in that direction but didn't give those answers...

Re: competition Question
I think it definitely will give the answers, as soon as someone can manage to demonstrate the signs to someone else who can interpret them.
Re: competition Question
I think the person may be Albert Finney. I believe two of the films are Traffic and Big Fish. I am still working on the third, but he connects those two.
Re: competition Question
The middle film, number 2 is The Green Man. Number 1 is Big Fish and number 3 is Traffic. Albert Finney connects them all; he was in them. I finally got my hands on a BSL dictionary, then it was fairly straightforward.

Re: competition Question
Thank you all so much. It was just a matter of time before one of us got there; I know I wasn't the only close one! It was the most frustrating thing, wasn't it? But a good feeling finally to crack it.
